10 Mindblowing Truth Bombs from Insanity’s Shaun T

I have some serious recommended reading for you all! I’m not a big fan of self-help books, as a general rule. When I’m at my most vulnerable and in need of help, platitudes are not what I’m looking for. Cue me, walking through Barnes and Noble when all of a sudden, I see a very familiar face staring back at me. A face I normally associate with sweating and cursing in my living room – Shaun T!

Shaun T's T is for TransformationI first met Shaun T when I dove into Insanity Max:30 for the first time, shortly before I tore my ACL. If you want an intense but short bodyweight workout you can do in your living room, I’d give this one a big thumbs up. Shaun T has a presence that makes you simultaneously hate him for what he’s putting you through, but love him because you know you’re getting stronger. He’s also known for Hip Hop Abs, Rockin’ Body, and CIZE.

Alright, Shaun T. You got my attention.

I picked up the book, glancing over the front cover. That is when I caught the subtitle.

Unleash the 7 Superpowers to Help You Dig Deeper, Feel Stronger, and Live Your Best Life

Superpowers. Well, that is my niche.

So, I do what I usually do when picking up an unfamiliar book – I turned to a random page.

In frank, plain language, Shaun T unspooled a tale I did not expect. I used to work with children who had been badly abused and assaulted, young boys. Some of them were no older than ten. I did not expect to see this kind of story reflected in Shaun T’s personal history.

Fine, Shaun. (I feel like I’m talking to my TV right now.)

Even though this book was found in the self-help section, it’s just as much an autobiography of an incredible human being. Getting to know the history behind him, only made his workout videos all the more inspiring.

Initially, I picked up the book in November 2017, when it came out. About two hundred pages in, I put it aside. I had podcasts and moving and so many other things on my mind. I did not end up picking it up again until I was on my Ireland trip. To be honest, that was when I needed it most. I felt run down, worn out, and at the end of my rope. This book was exactly what I needed to get my head on straight.

Shaun is blunt, honest, and a little bit wacky. His “superpowers” include Uncomfortability, Selfishness, and Bananas. Want elaboration? You’re going to have to pick up the book. As he talks you through these powers and gives you practices to develop them, he drops multiple truthbombs throughout the book. Here are the top ten that I wanted to share with you.

What’s next on my reading list? Well, it’s either The Brave Athlete: Calm the F*ck Down and Rise to the Occasion or Unfu*k Yourself: Get Out of Your Head and into Your Life. If you can’t tell, I got a vibe I’m working on. Got a recommendation? Read Shaun T’s book? Let me know in the comments!

  3. accept the responsibility of changing ones life… that’s a truth bomb I like to hear. I know it’s easier said than done but we gotta start somewhere right? Let’s start by taking that responsibility and see where it takes us!

It’s really easy to slip into feeling like a victim sometimes, but no one is going to make the changes for you. 🙂

  4. Accepting the responsibility to change is a big one! I know this is something I personally struggle with, because changing our ways can be so hard! I need to work on dedicating myself to a healthier lifestyle and diet so I can be healthier for tomorrow.
